Support for Android Auto

Hello there!

As an avid SoundCloud user, I must say it's the music app I use the most. With a clean interface and intuitive menus, it really makes for a great user experience, especially when you use it multiple times each one of the seven days of every week.

Recently, though, I've found one major issue with it: it doesn't have Android Auto support. While other music apps, like Spotify, integrate perfectly with my car's display, my favorite music app (SoundCloud) doesn't. I don't know why this is, and even by reading other posts about the matter I haven't been convinced by any singlr awnser.

Now, I am aware most of the SoundCloud userbase (myself included) don't pay for the great service the company provides - I know beggars can't be choosers. The guys and girls at SoundCloud must get some kind of pay for the great work they do, obviously. I, for one, would be more than happy to subscribe to SoundCloud Pro if it included Android Auto support!

To truly contribute and not just ask for a feature like a kid who wants candy for free, I bring you this site: http://www.jeffreyhumble.com/soundcloud-for-android-auto/. If you take a look at it, it seems the guy, Jeffrey Humble, has got the interface all figured out, as well as different controls and features for the app. Also, from what I understood from it, it appears the SoundCloud app, given its architecture, should work with Android Auto without major changes to its code (please feel free to correct if I'm wrong, as I don't have any formal knowledge on the matter to support this claim).

So, I wanted the open the discussion about this matter after seeing all the posts that talked about Android Auto support go away semi-unnoticed. I hope some of you read this and contribute with your own ideas, with hopes of getting this to the people at SoundCloud so they can give us a solution to this problem or, if not possible, an awnser.

 Hi, my name is Jeffrey Humble, and I’m the creator of the designs that you posted.

Funny thing, that project. I was applying for a job at SoundCloud as a product designer. For the design challenge, they asked me to consider how I would port Soundcloud to Android Auto. I think they were expecting a paragraph and maybe some sketches, but I don’t do anything half-assed...

I ended up doing the whole research, UX, and UI process in a week in my spare time. I wanted to impress them, but I think I weirded them out.

I didn’t get the job.

Hopefully, the designs get used one day!

You, sir, are too good for this world. They didn't deserve you.

Gave Soundcloud 2 years of my money hoping, waiting, wishing, that Android Auto support would come. Today I stopped waiting and made the switch to Spotify Premium.

Thanks for giving me NO other choice Soundcloud. What stick is so far shoved up ur a**? As a mobile app developer creating android auto support was stupid simple and took no time at all.

Seriously how long do we have to wait for this? Let's get this in the road!
Please Soundcloud, android auto is a must nowadays, I don't want to switch to Spotify
Absolutely! This is a must have! Listening to music on my daily commute and would really appreciate an Android Auto integration ☺
I canceled my premium subscription because there is no Android Auto support. If Android Auto support is added, I will activate my premium subscription again.

Thanks @HughDawg03 that is true about the updates. It would be a pain but if we had kind of a tutorial from google *cough* saves time on really working one it for too long. I'm not saying i would have time myself but would be interesting if someone else with lots of time did it.

I just keep noticing that this is still a big topic with Soundcloud and see that its easy to just add. With a months time Soundcloud devs could make it work. Sad its taking 2+ years to have really any luck at all.
Totally agree. Honestly, I just started using Soundcloud on my phone and scoured the forums to see if they had Android Auto support, which lead me here, haha. I'm sure some could probably write a script to make what I mentioned easier too, but having full dev support from Soundcloud would be 👌

Maybe if we keep talking, they'll start listening...

Until then, maybe we'll have a brave vigilante with too much time on their hands, haha.

Time for Reddit's turn now 😂

Question, is it possible for someone to just, you know, compile the app. Then proceed to added support on there own or would it not work because of complications. Not sure what their codebase looks like, but usually when you have to "augment" some else's code, you break any possibility of future updates. To avoid that, you would have to remove the changes, get the update, then add the changes all over again. This is assuming that adding the changes would work in the first place.

Mobile apps usually have a ton of small updates for tiny bugs too, so it could be a pain.

Not having Android Auto integration by now when major car companies are adopting android auto into their multimedia systems for the next generation, its going to be a missing opportunity.

This should be on your roadmap for at least a basic player.

I miss this feature already, please consider.
I think Google and Android might have something to say about this guys. Google has its own music streaming service, and I'm sure companies like Spotify wouldn't want too many other players in the Android Auto market either..

+1!! Could not agree more. I consume most of my music on SoundCloud these days. Lack of Android Auto support is incredibly frustrating.

Please make Soudcloud compatible with Android Auto.
Add my name to the list of folks who want this and would be willing to pay. Given that this is a Google owned application and Google is also the source of Android source code, it seems like pure nonsense that soundcloud isnt an Android Auto compatible app.
Userlevel 1
I'd pay for it too but honestly this shouldn't be needed. They already have an app for iOS and Android it really can't be that much harder to add auto integration. But I guess since it makes them no money they could care less.

I highly suggest actually dropping your subscriptions for SoundCloud until they add support for Android Auto. Seems like it's not very high on their priority list, despite users from both Apple and Android side screaming for Auto integration. They don't want to listen to what their customers want, then their customers should get their music elsewhere. I can think of at least one competitor that has a great app for the car that works without having to pull teeth and beg for a feature for years.
Attn:Soundcloud
I would gladly pay for Soundcloud Premium if it would intrigrate with Android Auto but until it does I'm getting my house music fix through the Tunein app which does intrigrate with Android Auto.

I am currently paying the monthly subscription fee. Soundcloud deserves it and needs it.....but I "need" Android Auto support....I'm currently using "AnyAutoAudio" just to at least have control of play/pause, prev/next while listening to Soundcloud. It's bare minimum, but it's third party software. I don't have my hopes up, but I'm another person who desperately wants this.
+1! Why is it so complicated to make this app compatible with Android Auto ?
Userlevel 1
It's honestly the main reason I'm not on premium. I do most of my casual listening while driving. I'm always using a certain competitor at the moment. If we had android auto support I would probably use soundcloud more overall, not just in the car. I'm not gonna pay a monthly fee for something that doesn't have what I consider baseline features.
Userlevel 1
Absolutely! I would gladly pay for it... Why oh why isn't this implemented yet?
