Question

Podcast Artwork

Hi there,
We have our general podcast artwork and artwork for our first episode, however the general podcast artwork is also what's showing up in the episode on iTunes when I subscribe and play the individual episode. I have tried reuploading the episode artwork and then refreshing the RSS feed on iTunes, but it is still there. I am also sure the image is 1400x1400. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Make sure yo also have the episode-specific image embedded into the ID3 tags of the media file. It needs to be there as well as in the podcast RSS feed, as different apps pull episode-level artwork from different places.
thanks shawnmx,

I made sure beforehand to include the artwork in the media file as I knew that was important. in talking to apple, this was the email they sent for the same question:

In reviewing your RSS feed, I see that you have the channel level art set with:

http://i1.sndcdn.com/avatars-000438864282-0xag2o-original.jpg

and you have the episode level art set with:

Per our guidelines:

Channel Level - Specify your podcast artwork using the attribute in the tag.

Episode Level - The episode artwork. Specify your episode artwork using the attribute in the tag.

So I have two questions.
1.) I don't see the url they said I have in my RSS feed with the episode artwork at 500x500. The one i see in the XML is 1400x1400, but maybe i'm not looking at the right part?
2.) if it is a matter of going in and manually editing tags as they are recommending, how do I manually edit/update that?

thanks for any help
rest of the email got cut off for some reason. here it is:

The episode-level artwork tag in your feed looks like this:

< itunes:image href="http://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-000345001824-wr2bh5-original.jpg"/ > (opening/closing brackets moved to keep the forum from removing the code)

So far as I can tell, that follows Apple's spec. I subscribed to your feed using desktop iTunes on my Mac and the episode-level artwork did come up. Where are you not seeing the episode-level artwork?
Thanks shawnmx, that's what I thought as well, and apple seemed like they weren't understanding what was happening or what i was asking.

i did just resuscribe to it on my laptop and the artwork showed up, but for some reason it doesn't show up in the podcast app (the episode artwork), which was where i was trying earlier. would there be a reason for that or is that normal for people?

thanks again, really appreciate it. just wanted to make sure the time i was putting into the episode artwork was worth it.

Delte the subscription in the iOS Podcasts app and resubscribe and see if the artwork shows up then.
I deleted the subscription and redownloaded the podcast app to see if that would do anything but it still only defaults to the show artwork. that seems weird that it would work on desktop but not in the app, right?

Yes. Could definitely be a bug in the iOS Podcasts app. The Podcasts app and desktop iTunes aren't congruous in how they're designed. It's not unusual for these types of quirks to come up. Regardless, based on everything you've done, it *should* work. At this point, I don't think there's anything else you can do.
ok thanks. i appreciate you taking the time to look into it and explain it. i'll let apple know that it's on their end. hopefully it will be fixed soon. thanks again for walking me through it.
