What would be some reasons why play count are not appearing under the track on sound cloud?

You playing your own track while logged-in will not register.
Playing a track on repeat will only register as a single play.
If you are looking at the track page while people are playing it on different devices their plays probably don't show up on your screen until you refresh the page.

How about if you shared your link to a lot more people who were waiting to hear it ahead of time

One other possibility: If the track has the "Quiet mode" enabled, play counts are no longer shown under the track. https://help.soundcloud.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003448007-Enabling-Quiet-Mode-on-your-track.

@Ralph Steez I've just looked at your most current track though, and the playcount is showing properly for me.
