How to report a site using your tracks without your permission

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled frontmp3.xyz putting API content up for free download..

A friend brought this to my attention today.

A 3rd-party site (frontmp3.xyz) appears to be listing content from SoundCloud, and putting up for free download, regardless of the download settings on a particular track. For Example:

http://frontmp3.xyz/musix/matt-sawyer.html

Looking at the source-code for the site, it references content directly off of (https://cf-media.sndcdn.com) which is SoundCloud's CDN.

They appear to have valid tokens for accessing this content. I appreciate SoundCloud provides a streaming API for various apps / services, but are site's (such as frontmp3) allowed to post direct download links to this content?

Cheers guys, looking forward to a response 🙂
Now I see why SoundCloud is so careless about their users security!!! They allow this kind of SHIT through and are probably profiting from it:

I am receiving this kind of email from SoundCloud since I submitted my complaint about other pirate sites cloning all my music and allowing FREE DOWNLOADS!!!!!

http://mp3.mygen.top/track/244182749/the-graver-slow-your-roll-the-green-raver-glitch-house-dubstep-...

is hosting a download of my song hosted through soundcloud, this song is not available for download anywhere on the internet, and this really upsets me. Not only are they offering a download but the link to the song goes through a ppc site. This is completely illegal and Soundcloud is responsible since it is hosted on Soundcloud.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Playlists are available for FREE download on Songsmine, WHY???.

Every song I have placed on SoundCloud has been listed on Songsmine allowing FREE Download!!! How can Soundcloud allow this to happen??

Here is the first of many Pirate sites that has all of my SC material and is giving it away!!!

http://www.songsmine.com/search/bk%20...

What really concerns me most is the fact that my personal information may also have been compromised!!!!!!!
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Soundcloud Tracks Being Stolen.

Soundcloud is the only place on the internet I put my music, and I do not allow downloads. Without my permission, this website http://mp3drive.xyz/ is making all my public tracks here available to stream AND download. I'm no one special. I think they've ripped/stolen EVERY public track from everyone on Soundcloud. Can Soundcloud help?

Hey David,

I just found out that all of my stuff has been cloned as well.
The thing is, it may be too late to do anything about this??? What really bothers me is, were they able to get all of our personal info?? I don't list much about myself but I did upgrade to a pay Level.

Oh well, best of luck containing this.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Another site using my stuff from here?.

i was wondering if this site (linked below) has anything to do with soundcloud? i googled myself just curious and stumbled across it... surly this site has no rights to post my photo and tracks from soundcloud do they? there doesn't seem to be any way to contact them either.. here is the link to the site below

http://nexmusic.gq/artist/docotay

This site has all my uploads as well!! So do all these other pirate sites. I would guess that the whole SoundCloud site has been compromised. I'm thinking of deleting all my stuff and going to another site but it may be too late.

I share my tracks with lovers of music, never with sound rippers...so i ask soundcloud, what to do...

Did they ever get back to you?? Same thing is happening to a shitload of people here and I can't get any answers!!

Hello Everyone,

I am an independent DJ/Musician here on SoundCloud and I would like for people to know about what has been brought to my attention from a fellow SoundCloud user.
There is a website called SounDownload .com and they have some how gained access to EVERY SoundCloud profile and has their music available for FREE Download.
The problem is, I don't want my songs available for downloading that's why I configured my account for no downloads. EVERY one's songs are available on this site for FREE.

I've included some screenshots of the home page to the site and my profile as it looks on their site. I never signed up with these people either so how can I have a profile with them?

What can we do about this? What can SoundCloud do about this?

I just found out this was happening by Googling myself. There are links all over Google that lead to my lyric collaborations on a site called SongMine. Every upload I ever made was taken and is being offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD. This pisses me off to no end!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

I've read your API's Terms and Conditions, and quoting:
Please also bear in mind that all User Content available over the SoundCloud®️ API has been created and uploaded by users. We expect all of our users only to upload content to which they own or control the relevant rights, but we cannot give you any guarantee that this will always be the case. This is explained further in the Liability for User Content section below. Regardless of any permissions set by any Uploader with respect to any User Content, you must not use the SoundCloud®️ API, or any User Content accessible via the SoundCloud®️ API, for any of the following purposes:to create a page, profile, channel or other online presence dedicated to one or more specific artists or set of repertoire
to create any kind of alternative digital content service, including: any service that aggregates and streams User Content from multiple users into an on-demand listening service, or any playback experience which aggregates and streams User Content with content from other services (e.g. SoundCloud with YouTube) Given these points from your ToS (https://developers.soundcloud.com/docs/api/terms-of-use#privacy ) I would like to hear back how is it possible to run websites like:

http://whyd.com/ - that's exactly what it does - it aggregates music that's added by community, it allows search and playback like from here http://whyd.com/search?q=twenty%20one%20pilots (you can filter by service in upper right corner)

http://www.hillydilly.com/ - same idea, but doesn't use youtube as I checked.

Are these websites running legally? It's basically against your ToU (ToS)

Yes I did, Marcin. It speaks about playback experience and streams, not about downloading.
Do not expect me to reply in person to any more of your pseudo arguments unless you make excuses or have something valid to say.

Nothing against using the soundcloud player with other looks and styles, why should we?
Alas these sites have used the API in such a way that anyone can download any track from soundcloud, as stated before, in addition to regular play. Some of these sites even give instructions on how to download, although in most cases it is as simple as right-click, select save-as (you're welcome).

So in addition of playing THROUGH soundcloud, which is acceptable as stated by me before, they offer downloads in cases where that is explicitly forbidden by the owner of the soundcloud track. There is a non-subtle difference between downloading or playing and my opinion on this remains the same: disrespectful to say the least and shameless piracy for a fact.

These sites don't quite literally allow playback / download, they run using "headless" soundcloud player, that is using soundcloud player API to control music that is playing THROUGH soundcloud, but without soundcloud controls / logos / anything, that's a little bit different from straight stealing / downloading and uploading elsewhere.

Hello

Sergio Guarneri

Hey Lasse,
Nice of you to bring it to our attention, but it seems as if you're using a robot or hack to spam us with this. Can you please stop that?
Hello Community & Soundcloud Moderators:

I too have been finding other sites who mimic my legit Soundcloud page. This site has taken all my uploaded tracks and are now displaying them on their site with your logo's. They never asked me to use them and I did not authorize any permissions to satisfy their ego's. This clown has a link: http://www.kinoman.az/en/music/listen/215492422?q=%23bass

Searching ones name in a search engine pulls up these 'Mimic' websites. I have found several others
and when contacted, I was ignored.

I am glad they like the recordings and want to have them but It's not nice that they flat out steal them
from my entrusted sacred and soundcloud network.

I would really like to find the solutions regarding this problem. I appreciate all you can do.

-syn_wav

Dear Lasse,

I do not trust just any twitter account to hack around with my music. I do appreciate you joining in the discussion and thinking with us. And I agree that inserting a code and having a single decoding player will be the only solution to our problems.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Soundcloud is being Dloaded from another site..

Found a link to my mp3's for dload. The only place i have ever uploaded my tracks too is soundcloud. Is soundcloud being hacked or is soundcloud not trust worthy any more.

Any one having this experience??

Do soundcloud know about alot of their clients music being sneaked out from under thier noses and published with out there consent!

I'll check it out Lasse,
but i.m.o. inserting a safe code and keeping it safe should be offered and maintained by, and most important: is the responsibility of Soundcloud.

I am part of, and do very much like the soundcloud community of artists, but whether this has a future for me will strongly depend on soundcloud's actions on this.

Stolen music is unacceptable. It would be great if there was a feature allowing us to encrypt our songs to prevent them from being stolen. I realize this is the internet and it's difficult to prevent, but i find this kind of thing regularly happening to my original music.

Of course I fully agree.
You raise an interesting point about encryption. That would be a great feature and probably the best solution and I would not mind supporting in that by switching from a free account to a pro account.
Only requirement in this is that Soundcloud discards their existing API (developers library) and does not provide a new one, or a very limited one allowing only uploads.
Playback would then be possible only via the updated Soundcloud player either directly via the soundcloud site or embedded from any other site (as it is now).

Different sites have copied or downloaded my mixes, and are offering them free. I haven't offered free downloads on Sound Cloud. How can these sites do this without my permission?

It is possible, according to Soundcloud itself, by creating an embedded program using the Soundcloud API (developers library). Of course that library is not intended for that, but it can be freely downloaded and used.

What can we do about this? What can SoundCloud do about this?

Like you I, and many others, have made similar remarks on this. You raise two very essential and good questions about this:
What can we, as soundcloud users, do about this?
In most cases, as individuals, I fear we can do very little other than report these sites in similar fashion as you did. For those who have their music officially registered (like I did many years ago, but also stopped with that many years ago) there may be a chance by informing the registerd instance (Buma Stemra in the Netherlands) but even then they will only act when significant amounts of money, e.g. losses in their profits, are involved.
What can soundcloud do abount this?
Although I'm not in the technical details, they could change storage and protection thereoff to a new concept, as well as remove access to that from their APIs.
In my opinion if Soundcloud is to survive and be taken seriously in the long run they must, as soon as possible, close the leaps and gaps to their (our!) content.
Also in my opinion it is pretty weak of soundcloud to state "you are the owner and controller of your content, so you take care of it individually. It is not our problem" (my words, as a summary of some of soundcloud's reactions).
Soundcloud is a community of very nice people and some outstanding artists. I would not mind supporting soundcloud in this at all by switching from a free account to a pro account as long as Soundcloud takes its contributors and their content with a professional attitude.

Are these websites running legally? It's basically against your ToU (ToS)

In my opion these websites are, of course, not running legally:
As stated in the first quote: "Soundcloud users upload content to which they own or control the relevant rights."
No one else owns these rights. In uploading to soundcloud individual playback rights or download rights, per track, are granted by respective owners.

For example in my case, which is similar to that of most users, I allow anyone to play my tracks free and unlimited using the soundcloud player, whether embedded or from the soundcloud site. In some cases I prohibit downloading, either because the tracks are covers / arrangements of existing tracks of which I'm not the owner, or of protection of my own art.

So there is really no need for any other web location to offer download or playback of soundcloud tracks other than through the embedded soundcloud player.

Offering download of tracks that are prohibited from download by their owner is unrespectful to say the least and shameless piracy for a fact.
