WHAT'S NEW WITH SOUNDCLOUD - August 2024

By Rohit Agarwal, Chief Product Officer

This August, we launched a range of new features on SoundCloud. Whether you're squeezing in a last-minute vacation, gearing up for the new school year, or just keeping to your routine, here are some product highlights from this month to help you stay connected to the music and artists you love.

Rep the SoundCloud Scene Wherever You Go

We’re excited to announce the launch of our SoundCloud Store, featuring exclusive artist merch and our SoundCloud essentials collection.

If you're into artists like Bktherula, Denzel Curry, Wiz Khalifa, wolfacejoeyy, or Armani White, you're in the right place. Choose from tees, hoodies, hats, and more—all designed with the artists’ signature styles.

Express your love for music and support your favorite artists in style—beyond just listening because streaming isn’t enough – for artists or for fans. Plus if you're a Next Pro artist, you can take it a step further when you own 100% of your merchandise rights by applying to design and sell your own merch right here. All items will be made to order through SoundCloud and hosted on the SoundCloud Store, with no hassle or upfront costs to participating artists.

Join in on the excitement and stay tuned—more exclusive merch from your favorite artists is dropping soon!

Customize Your SoundCloud Experience

Make every moment on SoundCloud uniquely yours.

We are excited to share that you can now choose your own SoundCloud App logo design on your mobile device (Android and iOS).

If you’re a free user you can choose between our OG orange or classic black and white design, and if you’re a Go, Go+, and Next Pro subscriber, you can also choose from 8 new designs: Chrome, Rose Gold, Silver, Soft Purple, Hot Pink, Tie-Dye, Leopard, and rave-ready ‘BRAT’ green for you to rock while it’s still Summer.

This feature lets you tailor SoundCloud to your personal style while staying connected to what you love—discovering and sharing music. Whether you want to keep it classic or switch things up, the choice is yours!

Displaying Artists on Tracks:

SoundCloud was built on a track-to-profile relationship, emphasizing direct links between tracks and artist profiles. While effective, this set-up occasionally made track titles and  collaborators' names harder to see. Well we heard you, and in response to feedback from our valued community of fans and creators, we have launched an update to enhance the music discovery and listening experience.

Take a look:

Before (IOS Mobile):

After (IOS Mobile):

Now, instead of showing an artist's profile name next to their track’s title, we'll display the artist name and featured artists separately under the 'Main Artist' section. This design change will make sure song titles are clear and that artists and collaborators on a track get their shine! By updating how metadata is displayed on the platform, we’re improving possibilities for fans to find their (future) faves and for artists to get paid!

Introducing SoundCloud's New iOS Homepage:

Your music experience just got a major upgrade. Instantly access your most-played tracks, discover the latest releases from your favorite artists, and explore SoundCloud's personalized playlists—all from a new homepage. The newly designed page is rolling out to all iOS users in the United States this week, and to the rest of the world very soon.

Uploading Checklist: Simplifying Access to Royalty-Based Features

We’re committed to making the upload process as seamless as possible, especially when it comes to getting paid. We’ve made it easier than ever for eligible artists to access royalty-based features like monetization and distribution. With our new Uploading Checklist, artists now have a clear, guided path, reducing friction and simplifying the steps needed to start earning.
